Astigmatism
An uneven shape in the curvature of the cornea or lens is referred to as astigmatism. This curvature results in blurry or distorted vision that can cause strain on the eye as well as squinting, headaches, and fatigue.
Most people have a minor form of astigmatism but serious issues can be corrected with contact lenses or LASIK surgery.
Hyperopia (Farsightedness)
People who are farsighted have the vision that is good up close but not at a distance. Hyperopia occurs when the eyeball is shorter than usual from front to back. This shorter distance causes light to converge behind the retina.
Farsightedness can be treated with eyeglasses, contacts, LASIK, and other treatments.
Myopia (Nearsightedness)
Nearsightedness is the opposite of farsightedness and occurs when someone has good vision within close range but not at a distance. In this case, the eyeball is usually too long.
Presbyopia (Aging Eyes)
Once the lens of the eye loses flexibility over time, this makes it harder for the eye to focus clearly on close objects. Presbyopia is an inevitable and unfortunate part of aging, but it can be treated with different types of glasses, contacts, bifocals, reading glasses, and more.
